Who We Are
PRISON RIGHTS AND REFORMATION AGENCY (PRIRA) is a human rights organisation dedicated to addressing human rights abuses and reforms in the criminal justice and prison systems of Malawi. Established to contribute to a culture of human rights and social justice, PRIRA serves as a voice for the marginalized while championing humane prison conditions and justice reforms aligned with national and international human rights standards.
Our History
PRIRA was founded by a group of human rights advocates, legal professionals, and social justice activists who recognized the urgent need for prison reform in Malawi. The organization officially commenced operations in 2024, building on years of advocacy and research into Malawi's criminal justice system. Since its establishment, PRIRA has worked tirelessly to document human rights violations, provide legal support to vulnerable prisoners, and advocate for systemic reforms.
Our Vision
A Malawi where the criminal justice system upholds the dignity, human rights, and social reintegration of every individual, and where prison conditions meet international human rights standards.
